Gunnar Gabriel Timeline

  • The Beginning of my Greatest Passion

As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be in film. And it was at one point in this year when I watched the first movie that truly got me interested in film (which was on one of those old VHS tapes) This movie being a 1950's Sci-Fi thriller called Tarantula which was about a giant tarantula that terrorized Arizona. It's cheesy but at the time I first saw it which was at a very young age, I was really impressed with everything on screen and from then on I held a large passion for film.
  • Spider-Man: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Comics

By this time I was already watching a lot of Star Wars and old Universal horror movies. However, I then came upon the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. And this is when my love of comic book characters truly began. Of course I also got to see the Tim Burton Batman from 1989 on tv but I wouldn't have actually seen the whole thing until a few years later. But to see Toby Maguire face Green Goblin in New York City was amazing to me and so I started looking for more Spider-Man and other hero material.
  • The Freak Ice Accident

So way back in second grade my parents signed me up for ice skating lessons. Although I forgot the reason why I was signed up, I never really was any good at it. Well one day, on the second to last lesson, I fell and suffered in a traumatic way. The ice skate wasn't tied tightly enough but I didn't know. Anyways, I fell, and the ice skate slipped off and the blade cut just above my left eye. I was lucky it didn't actually hit my eye but it cut it badly. Since then I've been terrified of ice.
  • Moving Houses

So pretty much early in 6th grade I moved. I remained in the same school but I still moved to a bigger house. Looking back on the old house I still miss it dearly, even if my current house is a lot bigger and has plenty more things in it. While it seems like a good thing, what happened was I became a lot more isolated since then and pretty much it was almost like I live in my own little world given how it's surrounded by trees.
  • Shrek the Musical: My First Performance

So for a while I was getting into musical theater, but where that started was when I did a small community theater production of Shrek: The Musical where I played Shrek's father, the Big Bad Wolf, Felonias the Executioner and the wedding Bishop as well as ensemble. To play all those parts was definitely surreal and a little taxing but I remember having fun with it. And after that I'd go on to do 8 more shows.
  • My Worst Show

Alice in Wonderland was by far my least favorite show to be a part of that was plagued with many issues both on myself and completely out of my control. Those issues being that I was the oldest in the cast by a good amount because I didn't realize going into it it was a production for kids to be in so I felt out of place with a few exceptions. There was only one actual performance and the set was just props, a projection background and the costumes. On the bright side I got the Mad Hatter.
  • The Greatest Failure in a Show

So pretty much I was on my fifth show. It was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and I played an Elvis impersonating pharoah. What happened was on all three performances of the show, I forgot the same exact lines in the song. It was one of the most embarrassing things I ever went through.
  • Little Shop of Horrors: The end of my work in theater.

Little Shop of Horrors marks the ninth and final show of anything I've done for theater. At this point I just felt like the cast was getting a bit repetitive in who gets what roles so I just had no hope going into auditions. And with that in mind, I couldn't help but feel bad for myself. The show may have been fun and the people were great, but I felt like I just wasn't good enough for the stage, which led me to consider behind the scenes work.
  • Getting a driver's permit

So pretty much when I turned 16, I knew I wanted to learn how to drive, even though I was so ridiculously lacking in confidence, I still did it. And shortly after that I started taking Driver's Ed so it all worked out in the end
  • BOCES

So at this point in my life I joined BOCES and took a film class. This class pretty much helped me find the very thing I wanted to do with my life. From a young age I knew I wanted to be involved with film but I didn't know how. Now I realize I want to make movies, to direct them and whatnot. And it's safe to say I've already gotten good at the editing and filming part. The other thing is this is where I met the best friends I ever had. Working with them on these things always will be great.
