    Johannes Gutenburg introduced the printing press to the world in order to be able to print multiple pages in a fast amount of time. This was the first invention that led to the printing of many indulgences for churches. This had a big impact on those that conducted a lot of research and did not want to hassle of hand craving their thoughts.

    Massachusetts was one of the first states to recognize the importance of children learning how to read and write. The people that lived there felt that in order for their colony to stay successful, they wanted their children to learn how to become literate so they can read the bible and previous laws.

    This method was created by a man named Thomas Gallaudet as a way to teach children how to recognize words as a whole rather than learning the sounds to break it down. This meant that children were expected to know the words by memorizing or being able to connect that word with a picture. This is taken from the thought that learning to read is natural and that children will just "catch on".

    This theory by Louise Rosenblatt stands firmly with the fact that the reader and text relationship is very important in understand the reading. The readers response while reading the text will affect how they interpret the text and there may be changes to the response as the readers gradually goes through the text. She feels that for this transaction to occur, the reader must use aesthetic approach when reading.

    Former President Lyndon B. Johnson passed this act because he felt that education should be the number one priority in America. This allowed funding for low poverty students to attend school, as well as the purchasing of new books for libraries and textbooks to use in all academic classes.

    Taylor created the term Family Literacy after her studies of children completing reading and writing tasks. She then compared the children how were proficient in those skills and was able to connect those back to their home life. She was able to see that there was a clear difference between the parents that taught their children starting at birth versus the parents that did not.
