Rousseau
Jean Rousseau was a writer and a composer. He lived from 1712- 1788. He felt that children's early education should be natural. He felt children should learn about topics when they are ready and it should not be rushed. He felt formal instruction could interfere with the development of young children.

Pestalozzi
Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi lived from 1746- 1827. He also believed in natural learning but wanted to add something. He wanted to combine natural learning with instructional learning. He felt children needed help developing and could not do it all on their own.

Froebel
Friedrich Formel lived from 1782- 1852. He followed the natural learning and also Pestalozzis ideas. Froebel wanted people to understand how important play was in leaning. He felt teachers would facilitate playful actives that also involved learning. Many of his practices are still used today.

Montessori
Montessori beloved children need order and structure. The use of the material is modeled through the teacher and then the children are supposed to imitate the same actions.

Dewey
Dewey beloved in progressive education. He felt curriculum should be built around the child and their interest. He wanted to encourage social interactions to encourage play.

Piaget
Piaget beloved in different stage of development. You have sensorimotor period (0-2), preoperational period (2-7), concrete operation period (7-11), and formal operations period (11- adult). He beloved children gained knowledge through the world.

Vygotsky
Vygotsky believed children acquire new concepts. He believed children would add knowledge overtime to add to what they already knew. He beloved teachers should enforce scaffolding which is a technique that directs children's attention to what they need to know.

Balance Comprehensive Approach
This approach was not a single method or combination but instead it was a combination of methods to teach children how to read.

National Reading Panel
This was a combination of things such as Phonemic awareness which was the individual sounds are in words. Phonics is the sound to symbol relationship. Vocabulary is learning the meanings of words in order to understand what is read. Comprehension is being able to understand what Is read. Fluency is reading with expression and appropriate speed.

This was created to make sure no children would be behind in learning. It allowed for many reading first grants and money from the federal government.

National Early Literacy Panel Report
This is the process of knowing the letters and their sounds, phonological awareness, and can rapidly name letters and numbers. They want children to be able to write their own name and letters, can remember what was said for a while.

Common core Standards
The work was started in 2007 or 2008 and it wasn't a curriculum but it was a method. Many states have now written their own standards.
