    The Franco-Prussian War

    The Franco-Prussian War was a war between France and Prussia. This caused a rise of military power and imperialism in Germany.
  • Unification of Prussia and Germany

    When Prussia and germany unified they became a new empire. This new empire was ruled by King Wilhelm I.

    So the war would officially end France was obligated to sign a treaty with Germany.

  • Assassination of Franz Ferdinand

    Archduke Franx Ferdinand of Austria and his wife decide to inspect Austro-Hungarian troops in Bosnia. They'd decided to do so on a national day in Bosnia. On that same day "The Black Hand" supplied a group of students with weapons for the attempt of an assassination. Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian national student, assassinated the Archduke and his wife. They were killed immediately after their open car stopped at a corner on their way out of town.

    The assassination was blamed on the Serbian government by the Austrian government. They soon declared war upon them. Even though Serbia was allied with Rusia, Germany offered their help to Austria. Russia did mobilise and since they were allies with France, they mobilised as well.

    When Germany declared war on France, German troops poured into Belgium as directed by the Schleiffen Plan. This was drawn up in 1905. Sir Edward Grey, the British foreign secretary, sent an ultimatum to Germany. It demanded that they would withdraw from Belgium. At this time it was neutral.

    Battle of Tannenberg

    (August 26- 30, 1914) The Russian Army marched into Purssia. But because of the different railway gauge between Russia and Pursia, it was difficult for the Russians men of the army to receive supplies. During this the Germans were using their railway system to surround the Russian Second Army before anything could be told to their commander at Tannenberg. The Russians had a terrible defeat loosing thousands of men and 125,000 taken as prisoners. Even though Germany won they all so 13, 000 men.
