Hitler announced he was rebuilding the German army and air force. Hitler said to all other countries that this was a defensive move just to protect Germany. Hitler claimed all Germany needed was peace and not to start a war. He claimed that the increase in the army is just to keep peace. -

Taking Austria
Hitler called the prime minister of Austria to a secret meeting. This meeting was all threats and insults. Hitler tried to convince the prime minister of Austria to make Austria a part of Germany. -
Appeasing Hitler
Many agigtated Germans wanted a return of the Reich. Hitler openly supported these ideas because he thought the Czechs had turned to their allies for help. This was done with secret funding from the Nazis. -
Targeting Poland
The Nazis took some Polish prisioners towards the border of Poland dressed in the polish army uniform. The Nazi's then killed them claiming they were fighting back after they were attacked.Then Hitler declared war on Poland. -
Conquests in the East
The Nazis shipped over 160 about 167 professors to a concentration camp. These professors were from the Cracow University. Then the Nazis arrested a thousand Polish intellectuals. -
Conquests in the West
France fell victim to the Nazis. At this time the Nazis controlled all of Western Europe except for Britain. The British fought alone at this point while the conquered nations formed governments in London called governments in exile. -
The Invasion of Russia
Hitler ordered the invasion of Russia. He wanted to eliminate the Jewish-Bolshevik menace. The SS advanced into the Soviet Union as four groups with their own territories followed behind.
