    Start of Haitian Revolution
    In 1791, black slaves revolted against their French masters. They were led by Toussaint L'Ouverture and Jean-Jacques Dessaline. The revolted because they weren’t held in humane conditions and they were absolutely powerless.

    In 1804, Haiti, led by Jean-Jacques Dessaline declared independence from France. Slavery was abolished in Haiti. However, Haiti struggled as a country and faced many economic problems.

    In 1810, a priest, named Father Hidalgo, began the Mexican Revolution when he demanded independence from Spain. He gathered a small disorganized army and fought against Spain. This was led by Mestizos and Indians but they were suppressed by the Creoles.

    The South American Revolution was started with Venezuela declaring independence. They were led by Simon Bolivar, Jose de San Martin, and Bernardo O'Higgins. The Creoles were inspired by the ideas of Enlightenment and also French and American Revolution. The Creoles took advantage of Spain's weakness when Napoleon took over.

    End of Mexican Revolution
    The Mexican revolution was ended when Agustin de Iturbide declared independence from Spain. the new Spanish viceroy, lacking money, and troops, was forced to accept Mexican independence. The Treaty of Córdoba was signed on August 24, 1821 ending Spain's rule of Mexico.

    The Brazilian Revolution was started in 1822. The Creoles demanded that Brazil declare its independence from Portugal because they did not want to return to colonial status. The voted to make Dom Pedro, the son of the king of Portugal, their ruler.

    End of the South American Revolution
    The South American Revolutions ended in 1824. They were ended with the Battle of Ayacucho, in which Bolivar defeated the Spanish forces. The result was the formation of Gran Colombia, which encompassed many of the modern South American countries.
