  • The Start of The Haitian Revolution

    The slaves were tired of the French oppressing them, so on August 21st, 1791, they revolted. They were led by Toussaint L'Ouverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines, who were all inspired by the revolution in The United States.
  • The End of The Haitian Revolution

    After Toussaint's death, Jean-Jacques took control and declared the colony independant and named the country "Haiti".

    On September 16, 1810, the small village of Dolores issued independence led by Padre Miguel Hidalgo. The next day, the 80,000 men marched towards Mexico City for independence. The spanish defeated the men in 1811 and the mestizos ran to another leader.
