Prenatal Development
When your child is born they have reflexes that any newborn may have such as; blinking, rooting, sucking etc (pg.142). -
Development of a 1 year old
Their coordination and secondary circular reactions are enhanced (pg.203); goal orientated behavior and now have the ability to find objects that are hidden. -
Development of a 2 year old
Children will continue to explore the properties of objects and events, which is an indicator of problem-solving (pg.203) their imagination begins to grow more and begin to play make-believe. -
Development of a 3 year old
Use of symbols develop language but, their thinking still lacks the logical perspective. -
Development of a 4 year old
The child is familiar with names of colors, they have an understanding of ideas. Also, fantasizing and make-believe is enhanced in the creativity aspect. Memory is enhanced and can now remember parts of stories or what has been said to them in the past. The organization skill is enhanced and is encouraged in the child's development. -
Development of a 5 year old
Child knows sounds and make up words leading them to start to identify words with similar sounds "cat, bat, mat, hat". -
Development of a 6 year old
Children can usually begin to read simple stories and write simple phrases; single sounds are then connected to words "t, o, p" "top". -
Development of a 7 year old
Consistently in the flow of sounds; understand a wider span of what is going on around them and have a better understanding in the concept of time. -
Development of a 8 year old
Understanding of what is being read and may begin to read on their own. -
Development of a 9 year old
Abstract and complex language skills are enhanced and perfected, begin to read and write difficult sentences that are typically use in conversations. -
Development of a 10 year old
Participation in group activities, can accurately give others directions and perform great in oral presantations. -
Development of a 11 year old
Reasoning, thinking abstractly and applying logic is then applied to their schoolwork and outside of school; which is then applied in society. -
Development of a 12 year old
Language center of the brain has a growth fall out which is a mark of the critical period for learning new languages.
