  • Happy Birthday to Me

    Happy Birthday to Me
    I am born!
I don't remember much about this event, I do know it was not easy for my mom, who is only 4ft 8in. This is a picture of my mothers father, my grandfather with me. I didn't sleep much as a baby unless I was in a swing or his arms. This event effected my literacy because I was the first born, and got all the attention for 3 years, where my mom was able to significantly influence my development.
  • Brother Nick is Here!

    Brother Nick is Here!
My only brother, My baby brother, and he has red hair! This event effected my literacy because my mom had another brain to influence now. She made sure that both of us were in preschool, and education was important to us.
  • Moved to Mount Airy MD

    Moved to Mount Airy MD
I was in the 5th Grade when we moved from Gaithersburg to Mount Airy. My parents said that they wanted my brother and I to go to school in Carroll County, because they felt like it was a better learning environment. I have never been a good speller, but when we got to Mount Airy my new school started giving spelling tests which was new for me. It caused me to want to spell better which helped my spelling in the long run.
  • Graduated from High School

    Graduated from High School
When I graduated from South Carroll High School I was not emotionally, or mentally ready for college. So I went to Carroll Community College, then to Salisbury University, and then to Howard Community College. The jump from Carroll Community to Salisbury was tough, and caused me to re-think my decision and come home to go to Howard. This experience helped me to understand the importance of being ready for a University. Literacy played a big roll in this event too.
  • Towson University

    Towson University
Howard Community College better prepared me for Towson University than Carroll did for Salisbury. When I got to Towson I took advantage of all of my resources such as the Writing center where I could get a better grip on my literary skills. Many of the professors at Towson helped to shape my literacy throughout my time there.
  • Moved to Ocean City MD for the Summer

Moved to Ocean City MD for the Summer
I lived with my cousin and her friends. This picture was taken the weekend we signed our lease, it was an experience for sure! It gave me the opportunity to stop living for other people and start living life for my self. This experience helped my literacy because it gave me the confidence in myself that I could accomplish things on my own. Confidence in the ability of my skills to be independent!
  • Wyoming

    Wyoming
Best trip of my life, amazing eye opening experience. I want to live here one day, or at least go back. It showed me the world is so much bigger than we really think. Especially growing up in a small town where everyone knows everything about everyone. This impacted my literacy because while on this trip I read a lot of books, and discovered I enjoyed reading for pleasure, it was not a struggle any more.
  • College Graduation

    College Graduation
I never thought this day would come, It was a long road, full of obstacles, but this day was one of the most important in my life. It was here I learned that even though it took me a while to get here, I still got here, and anything is possible with hard work and determination. Having your bachelors degree effects your literacy because now you have hard evidence to back up your ideas of literacy.
  • First Job At Kennedy Krieger Institute

First Job At Kennedy Krieger Institute
This job is one of the main reasons I believe everything happens for a reason. All of my obstacles led me to this point in my life where I finally learned what I want to do with the rest of it. It has been so worth it! I want to continue my education at Johns Hopkins University in Special Education! I love this job. By working in education I am using my literacy skills everyday.
  • Today

    Today
I am the person I am today because these events changed my life for the better. These events have shaped my literacy through experience, education, and relationships. I can't wait to see what the future holds for my life. I know I want to make a difference in the world. I am always going to go out "Swinging"
