Magna Carta
Issued by King John under the compulsion of his barons in the church. This set boundaries for even the king and strengthened the British government. -
Petition of Rights
This gave rights to the citizens that the king could never take away. -
Boston Massacre
Resentment of the British troops caused a rebellion of the people. The troops unfairly picked on irresponsible gangs of people. Five men died in the incident. -
BostonTea Party
Colonists dumped supplies of tea into the harbor as a backlash to British taxes on the tea. -
3/5 Compromise
Counted 3/5 of the slave population as citizens for ennumerical reasons. -
Connecticut Comprimise
An agreement between the large and small states to have equal representation in the legislative government. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation were ratified in 1787. This superceded the U.S. Constitution and provided unity between the states. -
Missouri Compromise
Prompted the emancipation of all slaves borm in Missouri. Ended the reputation of the state as a slave state.
