  • Drive-up Theater

    Drive-up Theater
My first memory of going to the theater was a drive-up theater in Mesa, Arizona. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back had just been released and my whole family went to see it. It was amazing. I was only 4 at the time.
  • First Computer Class in School

    First Computer Class in School
My senior year of high school I had a Corel class, the predecessor to Microsoft Word I believe, We learned how to use a computer to write documents which we would print and turn in. Pretty exciting!
  • Email

    Email
I set up my first email account to assist my husband in accomplishing his school responsibilities and finances. Now it is a tool I can't live without. How did we communicate before?
  • Internet

    Internet
Although I had used the interenet from time to time previous to this event, it was around this time that we first used the dial-up modem in our own home to access the internet. I began to learn more about the internet and use it extensively as my husband was graduating soon with a degree in computer science and I became his unpayed job agent. I set up job searches, wrote introduction letters and posted his resume a hundred times before he landed his first job. He now works at Adobe.
  • Digital Camera

    Digital Camera
It was getting harder and more expensive to find places that would process the film for our non-digital camera, so we finally upgraded. Awesome! Except now I seldom print pictures :D
  • Digital TV

    Digital TV
We remodeled our family room and decided it was time for something bigger than our 24" TV/VCR set. Since we had 5 children they would all have to crowd around very close to be able to see the screen.
  • First Social Media site - Facebook

First Social Media site - Facebook
This was my first and really only social media experience. I set up an account to fulfill church responsibilities and to stay more connected with my family who had all moved on to more modern technology. I still use it as necessary rather than as entertainment because I am very busy.
  • Cell Phone

    Cell Phone
I had really been dragging my feet about getting a cell phone because I don't like talking on the phone, and I'm frugal. Then I was made the young women's president in our ward at church. I finally bit the bullet and got a cell phone to make comunicating with my girls and leaders more efficient. Within a few months I couldn't survive without it. It saves so much time!
  • Online Class

    Online Class
Last semester I took my first online only class. All assignments, information, and communication was done online. I had experienced some extension classes back in 1996, but the teacher still taught traditionally with a screen view remotely and homework and tests were still on paper.
  • Blog

    Blog
Created my first blog as an assigment for my Intro to Education Class ast semester, recording experiences from observing in my son's Kindergarten class and uploading pictures of fun things to do. I was terrified to do this, but it was actually super easy. It seems a lot of programs have become very user friendly now, whereas when technology was first coming out you had to read cumbersome handbooks to figure out how to do anything with the software.
