Early life
In 1778 he lived in Yapeyu, province of Corrientes, Argentina with his mother was Gregoria Matorras del Ser. His father of Jose was Juan de San Martin. The three brothers are Justo Rufino de San Martin, Juan Fermin de San Martin, and Manuel Tadeo de San Martin. Finally the one and only sister, Maria Elena de San Martin. -
Held Captive
At the of 34, he went to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1812. In 1798 he was held captive by the British. Held captive for over a year in the orange war. -
Birth and Death
Jose de San Martin was born on February 25, 1778. He had died on August 17, 1850, due to Natural Causes. His mother died on December 4, 1796. The father had died on June 1, 1813. -

In 1791 he Joined the army. Only at the age of 13. He wanted to follow his father's footsteps. His father was a professional soldier. -
National Hero
Jose de San Martin was known for a lot of things. One thing is that he was a “national hero.” He was considered a “ national hero” because he lead revolutions against Argentina in 1812. Chile in 1818 and Peru in 1812. -

He was a soldier and fought in War of the second coalition, War of the oranges, Peninsular war, and etc. He fought for the Spanish army. He was awarded captain in 1804. -
Jose and Mounted Gremadiers
Around February 3, 1813 Jose and his mounted grenadiers traveled north. When they were about to cross the high Andes and go to lima, Peru. Jose changed his mind due to safety concerns. Instead they went to Mendoza, Argentina. -
Protector of peru
On July 28, 1821, Jose got the title of protector del Peru. In english, it means protector of Peru. He earned the title by informing the Peruvians from the main plaza in Lima, that Peru was free and independent. -

He had a child on 24 August 1816, Mercedes Tornamesa de San Martin. She had died on 28 February 1875. She had died at the age of 58 years old. -
Control over the ocean
Jose had full control of the Pacific on August 20, 1820. Jose started to sail from Valparaiso, Chile to Lima, Peru. After they arrived at Peru, Jose surrounded lima and freed it from Spanish control.
