In 1776 James Madison wrote Virginas Bill of Rights. -
Articles of Confederation
The continental congress approves the Articles of Confederation. It created a loose alliance, and limited the goverments power. There were 13 states involved in this. -
Land Ordinance of 1785
congress passes the Land ordinance of 1785. It sets up a systeam for surveying land and settling the North West territory between the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. They would divide up the land and sell it for $640. -
Shays Rebellion
Shays Rebellion was a farmers revolt. They attacked court houses and proved the Articles of Confederation did not work. -
Constitutional Convention
Its main goal was to revise the Articles of Confederation. There were 55 dlegents in attendence. There was only on state that did not send any one whitch was Rhode Island. -
Signing the Constitution
On 1787 the Constitution was ready to be signed. Every one sigined the Constitution, except three delgents who did not sign it. Some were scared that it would give the National Government too much power. -
SlaveTrade
The slave trade was ended by the Northern states in 1787. The southern states said it threatend to ruin their economy. -
The Virginia plan
Edmund Randolph and James Madison proposed the plan to the government. The Virginia plan had three branches of the system for the court. -
The Great Compromise
Tempers were high when no one could reach an agreement for the Great Compromise.They finally reached an agreement. They gave both small and big states a little bit of what they wanted.
