Mexican troops under General Santa Anna entered San Antonio de Bexar, Texas and surrounded the Alamo Mission. The Alamo was defended by a small force of Texians led by William Barrett Travis and James Bowie, and including Davy Crockett. -

March 1, 1836 Washington-On-The-Brazos became the meeting place of the Texas delegates who formally announced Texas' intention to separate from Mexico and who drafted the constitution of the new Republic of Texas, organizing an government to serve until they officially elected a government who could be put in place. -

The End of The Battle of The Alamo
March 6, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. After repulsing two attacks, Texians were unable to fend off a third attack. As Mexican soldiers climbed the walls, most of the Texian soldiers withdrew into buildings. Defenders unable to reach these points were killed by the Mexican cavalry as they attempted to escape. -
