In 1490 Ponce served as a Page for Don Pedro Nunuz de Guzman, a Spanish knight. He fought as part of their army and help fight the Muslims. -

Ponce then stayed back at Santo Domingo,Hispaniola while Columbus sailed back to Spain. -

Frontier Governor
In 1502 Ponce was given the task to defeat the rebellions in Hispaniola called the Tainos. After he did he was then appointed Frontier Governor of a city called Higuey. -

Another Journey
In 1508 Ponce heard of stories about gold being on an island called Boriquen Island. He got permission from the King to go on a voyage and explore. -
A Journey
Most sources have found that Ponce assisted Columbus on the 2nd voyage West.
