James Walker 7th Battalion Timeline

  • Beginning

    They were declared for War after a fortnight of being "raised" by Lieutenant Colonel H.E. "Pompey" Elliot.
  • H.S. "Formosa"

    James embarked on the ship H.S. "Formosa" at Harve of England as well as being embarked to join M.E.F.
  • ANZAC Landing

    They made stops throughout the year for instance they arrived in Egypt on the 2nd December 1914 but their major on was when they stopped at the ANZAC Landing as the second wave.
  • Transferred

    They were transferred from Anzac to Cape Helles to help in the attack on the village of Krithia. It cost them a third of their strength. They eventually returned back to help the ANZAC.
  • B.E.F.

    he was embarked to join the B.E.F. at Alexandra and then disembarked on the 31/4/1916
  • France and West Front

    The main reason for travelling to France was to go to the Pozieres in the Somme Valley where they fought until the 27th July and then again from 15th August to the 21st.
  • German Withdrawal

    the Germans withdrew to the Hindenburg Line and the 7th Battalion participated in the brief advance that followed and then came to a grinding halt before Bullecourt.
  • Menin Road

    They fought major battles at Menin Road and at Broodseinde on the 4th October
  • Battalion

    James left the battalion but thankfully re-joined on this date. Shortly after he was detached to Div'Pack Trn on the 6/11/1917 but 4 days later re-joined
  • Germany

    the 7th Battalion helped stop the German spring offensive in Northern France and later participated in the Allies' own great offensive that began with the battle of Amiens on August 8th.
  • Advance

    The advance by British and empire troop on this date were a great success in a single day on the Western Front. It was described as "the black day of the German Army in this War
  • Armistice

    The guns fell silent and the November Armistice was followed by a peace treaty of Versailles which was signed on 28th June 1919
  • Medals

    James was awarded three medals, a victory, a british war and a star medal.
