Enabling Act of March

First concentration camp set up
Early on the camps were for imprisonment and hard labor, not for killing. The Nazis actually targeted the Political group before the Jewish people. The majority of the first people put in concentration camps were communist which the Nazis did not like. 188,000 people were thought to be held at the Dachau concentration camp. -

He eliminated political rivals to be head of Nazi's. Since he rose the popularity of the Nazi's, which forces Hindenburg to give him some power. -
Nuremberg Laws
Nazis needed a way to identify Jews so they could discriminate them. Nuremberg Laws defined people with 3 or 4 Jewish Grandparents as " Jewish" and 1 or 2 as " Mixed Blood." -
Kristallnacht
The Night of Broken Glass. During this time 7,000 Jewish businesses were trashed and looted. Dozens of Jewish people were killed -
Euthanasia Program Begins
Eventually 80,000 people with disabilities will be killed
Euthanasia- systematic killing of those Germans whom the Nazis deemed " unworthy of life" because of mental illness or physical disability -
Germany invades Poland
World War 2 begins. They attacked Poland which has 3 million Jews in its population. Hitler" A World War will result in the destruction of the Jewish race in Europe." -
Ghetto's
Nazi's began rounding up millions of Jewish people. The largest Ghetto were in cities like Warsaw or Lodz in Poland. -

First Death Camp
First Death Camp opens ant Chelmno in Central Poland. Vans with small gas chamber in the rear are used. The gas the Nazis used was Zyklon B. It was first tested in the Auschwitz- Birkenau camp as a use for mass extermination. This would become the preferred method for the Nazis. -

As the army advanced into the Soviet Union, these groups would round up Jews from the newly occupied areas and kill them.... Usually by shooting

Prisoners fought back at death camps
After stealing weapons from guards, prisoners tried to escape. Most were killed but a few dozen made it out and survived the war. Members of the Sonderkommando working inn the Crematorium fought SS guards killing over 70, but all 250 as will as 200 others were killed in response -
