    He grew up going surfing for anywhere between 3-5 hours daily with his brothers and dad. He showed exceptional talent at a young age and by the time he was 17 he became the youngest to compete in Pipeline Masters in Oahu (Vince Cavataio). He fell short in this competition, losing to Kelly Slater. Not too long after he suffered a surfing accident where he careened into a coral reef which severely cut up his face. The accident was humbling to him so he decided to relax and focus on music(Johnson).

    Bushfire Fairytale was Jack Johnson's first hit album and it was originally written for movie a surf movie called "Thicker Than Water". This surfing movie became increasingly popular, earning Johnson some recognition. It was released through Everloving which was this companies first album ever and his success caused their success to exponentially increase. Bubble Toes and Flake are the two songs that became the most popular. Additionally, the album went platinum in the United States(Everloving).

    After his musical Eden Session, he sat down to speak to Tim Smit about his life and career. He spoke about his how he first began being an advocate for mother earth. He accredits it mostly to his wife, she saw his fame pick up and she suggested that he do something good for the world with it. He then began putting 100% of his touring proceeds to environmental issues and programs. One of these programs is based in Hawaii and it sets out to inform the Hawaiian children about recycling(Smit)

    Johnson would like the idea of "green touring" to catch on. His merchandise is Eco-friendly, meaning it is made out of recycled items or can be recycled. Instead of asking for nice food or drinks at his venues he requests for the light bulbs be exchanged for energy efficient ones. He knows it takes energy to replace the light bulbs so he hopes that the venues do not want to put in effort to remove them. He provides refillable water stations, their buses travel on bio diesel(TIME).

    They cast nets in the ocean along side their boat to collect pieces of plastics and other harmful man made products in the water(Cheney). This film was put together to help the world realize what is actually happening. There is no island of trash in the middle of the ocean, it is all in fragments. These fragments are what inspired him to write "Fragments" for the film. This song & the ideas from this film will be spread during his 2017 tour(Johnson).
