Spanish Arrive in Mexico
During the beginning of Ivan's era the Spanish had sent conquistadors to Mexico to recover gold from the new world. This marked the first time that colonies of any sort were sent over to the New world for any practical purpose. Ivan was proclaimed Grand Duke of Russia upon the death of his father. He is just 3 years old at the time. This begins a long reign of being the most powerful person in Russia.(Thomas 150) -

Ivan's Father DIes
Basil III was the father of Ivan the Terrible. His untimely death in 1533 left a large impact in Ivan's life because he had no father figure to raise him. He didn't have someone to lear from and this easily could have been a cause for his sociopathic problems in later years. -

Ivan's Mother is Killed
Ivan's mother was killed when Ivan was only 8 years old. This event deeply saddened the young Czar-to-be and this left him in the care of the boyars who constantly starved and sometimes beat the young child, leading to his anti-boyar mentality in later years, as shown by his policies against the boyars. -

Japenese Civil War of 1500's
In 1543 a Portuguese shipwreck brought muskets to Japan. After this, all the wealthy warlords gained an upper hand because they were able to utilize muskets. This modernized Japanese warfare, and synchronized it with the rest of the world for good. -

Ivan Becomes a Czar
Ivan is crowned as the first Russian czar upon his command. (Thomas 150) This begins the road of the leader of Russia being a czar. He has become one of the most powerful people in the world because of this. He still is only 17 years old. -

Rout of the Tartars
Ivan defeats the Mongolian people. His son was born during this named him Dimitri in honor of the first ruler to defeat the Mongols. -
Jan 5, 1564
Famous Reign of Terror Over Citizens (Russia)
Over the years of roughly 1564 to his death in 1584 Ivan conducted a reign of terror over everyone he ruled, often executing citizens for no reason. It was documented that he killed up to 2,000 people in one day by public execution on one of his more extreme days. During this period people lived in fear of his craziness, and weren't really truly safe. This was a time where he also took revenge on the boyars by displacing many boyar families in the area. -

The eight years war was the Netherlands versus Spain. The Netherlands was battling for their independence from Spain. However, they did not gain their independence till much later, in the thirty years war. -

Murder and Destruction
Ivan murders St. Philip for the sin of sorcery and begins the massacre of great Novgorod. He personally led his army in this terrifying campaign. He believed the town to be full of traitors and killed thousands of men, women and children. -
Ivan Kills His Own Son
Ivan the terrible was the killer of his own son. He killed his son during a heated argument over his pregnant daughter in law.After this Ivan had realized what he'd done and was horrified. He soon after fell ill and died, possibly partly due to this. -
Ivan the Terrible Death
Ivan Iv died on March 18, 1584. He died soon after he accidentaly had killed his son during an argument. He fell ill after this incident and died rather quietly soon afterwards, ending the life of one of the craziest men the world has ever known.
