    The death of Basil III, Ivans father in 1533 had a large impact in his life. He had no father figure to raise him or learn from, this could have been a reason for some of his irrational behavior in later years.

    After Ivans mother was murdered, at the age of 8 he was left in the care of boyars who often beat and starved him.This lead to his hatred toward boyars and his domestic policy against them later in life.

    Absolute power

    In 1564 Ivan left Moscow. After people begged him to come back he said that he would only come back on the condition of Absolute power and if he was given the right to punish whoever he wanted whenever he wanted. This was the start of Ivan's bad period which gave him his nick name Ivan The Terrible.

    From the time Anastasia died in 1560 to his death in 1584 Ivan went crazy and terrorized his people. He often executed citizens for no reason and It was documented that he killed up to 2,000 people in one day by public execution.

    During a heated argument, Ivan killed his son after realizing what he'd done and was horrified and soon after fell ill and died.

    Failed capture

    Ivan went to conquer Poland but his army was held back because of a recent traitor from Russia. There failure in annexing Poland put an end to Ivan's international power and signified the beginning of his descent leading to his death in 1584.
