Vasili III was Ivan's father. He passed away when Ivan was only three years old leaving Ivan with the title of Grand Duke of Russia. At this time Boyars fought to control Ivan and they succeeded because of his age. As a result this was one of the factors contributing to how paranoid he became as an adult because he did not want to have anyone take power from him again like what happened when his father died so he refused to trust anyone but himself especially Boyars.

Elena Glinskaya was Ivan's mother who was Ivan's mother and she died when Ivan was only eight years old. This was important because he lost his mother at a young age and it may had contributed to him being more paranoid during the bad period of his rule.

Ivan's first son and heir was born on March 28th, 1554. This was a positive thing to occur because this means that someone can take the throne after Ivan and his family is expanding.

The death of Anastasia Romanovna was a turning point in Ivan's reign, this was the breaking point .where the good period ends and the bad period begins, where he starts to earn the title of Ivan the Terrible.

The Oprichnina was an organization created by Ivan that executed people publicly and was responsible for killing many innocent people. This is important because this was a major factor to why Ivan earned his name of Ivan the Terrible. As be became more of an absolute ruler he would execute any one who disagreed or thought badly of him, killing many. This goes to show that how different he had become after his wife died.

Ivan had five wives in nine years throughout the 1570's. as he becomes more paranoid he continues to remarry because he can no longer trust anyone, even his partners.

One day Ivan and his first son and heir to the throne got into an argument which ended in Ivan beating his son with a walking stick injuring him so badly that he died three days later. This is an important event because it shows just how out of control Ivan can become.

Even though this was not while Ivan was alive the death of his second son was still significant because it left Russia with no heir meaning that Ivan's blood line would not be in succession to the throne and Ivan's Family could no longer be czar to Russia. He died on January 16th or 17th 1598.
