  • Honig v. Doe

    Honig v. Doe
    The defendant claimed that the defendant was suspended indefinitely due to the dangerous behavior in class. The family argued that this was a violation of the Education of the Handicapped Act. The final court ruling, ruled in favor of the defendant. It will not be allowed to discriminate against children who have disabilities. If the child has behavioral problems then they must follow the procedures in P.L. 94-142.

  • K.R. v. Anderson community School Corp.

    K.R. v. Anderson community School Corp.
    The family of the disable child Claimed that their rights were violated under the IDEA Act, because the school did not continue services after they enrolled their child in a parochial school. The school district claims that the services were stopped because she pulled the child out of the school. If a family choses a private religious school they will receive services, but they would not be the full services allotted in Public Schools.

    Cedar Rapids Community School District V. Garret F.
    The prosecution was arguing that they were not obligated to provide special services to the defendant, a quadriplegic who had special health needs during school hours. The defendant argued that they were obligated under IDEA to provide these services. The Supreme Court ruled that the Cedar Rapids Community School District was responsible and had to pay for the special nurse that was required for the services needed.

    This ruling was very important because this was another way in which children with disabilities could be discriminated against.
