Birth
Isaac Newton was born on December 25 in 1642. At the time England was using the Julian calander, so he was born Dec. 25 but when England changed in 1752, his birthday would be January 4th. (Isaac Newton) -
Navigation Acts passed
The Navigation Acts were put in place in the colonies in the new world because England wanted it's colonies to trade the most with them and send all their most valuble things to them. This led to tensions between England and its colonies. -
End of the Irish Confederate Wars
The Irish Confederate wars were fought betwwen 1641 and 1653. It was the most destructive war is Irish history. The King was protestant and the people were mainly Catholic, and the king passed a law that made more protestants so they could vote and pass an anti-catholic law. The people faced many hardships and decided to rebel. After winning Oliver Cromwell ruled but was not liked by the people.(Domey 1) -
Invention of Calculus
From 1665 to 1667 Newton left the college he taught at because it was closing because of the plague. It was during this time he came up with Calculus. He was the first person to use it and at first called it Fluxions. He didn't publish his work though which led to later conflicts. (Isaac Newton) -
Newtons Optiks
Newton published Opticks: Or, A treatise of the Reflections, Refractions, Inflections and Colours of Light. also known as just Optiks. Newtons Optiks was a book about how white light contained all the other lights. He proved this with a prism and letting only a small amount of light into the room. (Chirstianson) -
King Philips War
King Philps War was fought from 1675 to 1678 and was between the colonists of New England and the natives, led by Metacom. This war completly severed the friendly ties between the colonists and natives and ended with the death of Metacom.(King Philips War) -
Russo-Turkish War
The Russo-Turkish wars took place over many years from the 1600s to the 1800s. In 1676 the first war took place. It started because Russia tried to make a warm water port on the Black Sea, which was in Turkish territory. It ended in 1681 but many conflicts happened shortly after. -
Isolation
Robert Hooke and Newton had many arguments but in 1678 Newtons mother died and he had a nervous breaksown because of Hooke and shut himself away in Cambridge. Diring this time he studied how gravity effects the planets and their orbits. Hooke had many ideas about gravity and the planets but could not prove them mathimatically, so someone in the Royal Society went to Newton and asked him. Newton knew, and was persuaded to publish his work on it, leading to Principia.( Anderson) -
Lasalle claimes Louisiana
Lasalle claimed Louisiana for France in 1682 and namedit in honor of Louis XIV. He also made St.louis along with many other outposts. Louisiana would later be sold to America by Napoleon. -
Principia
Newton published Principia after 18 months of nonstop work. The full name was Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica and contained the 3 laws of motion he made. It described Inertia, F=ma and how every action has an equal and opposite reaction. It was one of the most popular and influental books ever made. (Isaac Newton,Sir) -
Resistance
In 1689 King Charles II tried to put Catholic teachings back into Cambridge. Newton was a leader in the resistance and was elected to be a representitive in Parliment. He went to london where he met John Locke and he agreed with much of what Locke said. (Isaac Newton,Sir) -
Warden of the Mint
Newton was made Warden of the mint in 1696 and then moved to london with his niece. His niece had a lot of power and helped him become Master of the mint in 1699. As Master of the Mint, Newton moved the Britsh currency, the pound sterling, from the silver to the gold standard.( Isaac Newton) -
Newton Elected President of the Royal Society
After Robert Hooke's death, Newton was elected president of the Royal Society. He ruled like a tyrant though, and had many conflicts with other scientists. With the power he had he could control the careers and lives of young scientists. -
St.Petersburg built
St.Petersburg was built by Peter the Great and was Russia's first warm water port. This port was very important as it made Russia a European power because it had much better trade and access. (st. Petersburg founded by Peter the Great) -
Confrontation with Leibniz
In 1705 Newton was confronted by a German mathimatician, Gottfried Leibniz. Leibniz said he discovered calculus before Newton. An investigation was held but the people investigating were appointed by Newton, so they said that Newton had discovered and came up with calculus first. (Anderson) -
Death
Newon died on March 31 of 1725 at the age of 84 years old. He had digestive problems that forced him to change his diet. He experienced abdomenal pain and fell unconscious. He never woke up and died the next day. (Isaac newton)
