Sepoy Mutiny
British was conquering most of India and gathering Indian soldiers. Indian soldiers were called "native sepoys" and they revolted in 1857 because the rifles had things made of either cow or pig and it was against their religion. -
British Rules India
In 1858, India was completly under Great Britain's rule. -
Indian National Conference
Indians from the middle class founded the Indian National Conference (INC) with the purpose to get a voice in the government decisions. -

Karamchand Gandhi, Gandhi's father dies. -
Gandhi Rides a Train in SA
Gandhi's riding first class in a train in South Africa when he's discriminated for being colored. He refuses to leave first class so he's thrown out of the train. -
First Non-Cooperation Protest
For the first time, Gandhi organizes a peaceful protest against the Transvaal Asiatics Amendments Act. This was a British law that requiered fingerprinting and registration of all Indians living in Transvaal. -
Gandhi Helps Peasants
Peasants were dying of hunger but still had to pay high taxes. Farmers went on strike and many were arrested but eventually, taxes were suspended for poor peasants. -
Rowlatt Acts
British government passed a new law, it allowed to jail protesters without trial for as long as two years. -
Amritsar Massacre
A British General orders his soldiers to shoot at Indians who were protesting the law. 379 were killed and 1,200 were left wounded. -
Gandhi says: No Cooperation!
Gandhi calls for Indians not to cooperate. -
He's Arrested
Gandhi's arrested for sedition, this means, encouraging people to rebel against the British. -
Prison Time!
Gandhi is still in prison. -
President of INC
Gandhi becomes the president of the Indian National Congress. -
Salt March
To buy salt, Indians had to pay high tax to the British. In 1930, Gandhi organizes a 240 mile walk to a seacoast to make their own salt. -
Arrested, AGAIN!
He's arrested for sedition, again!! Gandhi's put in prison without trial. -
Gandhi Fasts
Gandhi fasts in prision, meaning he doesn't eat anything until the treatment towards the untouchables changes. -
Government of India Act
This was the last constitution of India under the British rule. -

In 1947 British India was divided into two parts: India and Pakistan. -
