    Steam EngineThe steam engine was invented in 1712 by a man named Thomas Newcomen. The idea of using steam engines played a major role in the Industrial Revolution. The steam engine is basically an engine that runs off of coal and water, but can still run up to 100 miles per hour. The steam engine is now used to power trains, steamboats and factories.Thomas in a way "shared" this invention with a man named James Watt. Watt made an improved steam engine in 1769. He gets most o fthe credit for this invention.

    Spinning JennyThe Spinning Jenny was created by James Hargreaves. It was created in 1764. It was a hand-powered spinning machine that was the first machine to improve upon the spinning wheel by making it possible to spin more than one ball of yarn or thread at a time.

    BatteryIn 1800 ,Volta, figured out that certain fluids would generate a continuous flow of electrical power when used as a conductor. This led to the invention of the first voltaic cell, also known as the battery. Also in 1791, while working at Bologna University, Luigi Galvani discovered that when metal touched a frog's muscle, the muscle would contract and that's where we get the invention of an animal magnet.

It worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between stations. This invention spread rapidly, by 1860 there were telegraph wires spread all the way from the east coast of the United States to the Mississippi River.

    The sewing MachineThe sewing machine was invented by a man named Elias Howe in 1846. It was used for fixing clothing for factory and production use. This was widely popular because at this time in hhistory poeple still had to make clothing by hand, which could take hours or even days. Women were the ones working in the textile mills therefore they were the ones always using the machines. Some people thoght that the sewing machines would "infringe" the craft of women as seamstresses.

    The Bessemer MethodThe Bessemer Method was a method for processing iron into steel. This was a very popular method because it sped up the process of building, which led to city growth. The building that were built were able to last loger and weren't as expensive to build. This was particularly important to the British metal industry.

    Railroad1776, iron had replaced the wood in the rails and wheels on the carts. Wagonways evolved into Tramways and spread though out Europe. Horses still provided all the pulling power. In 1789, Englishman, William Jessup designed the first wagons with flanged wheels. The flange was a groove that allowed the wheels to better grip the rail, this was an important design that carried over to later locomotives.

    In 1846, in Boston City, inventor Thomas Green Morton used anesthesia to complete a surgery for the first time in history. Morton wasn't sure at first how to make the anesthestic so he consulted a chemistry professor who toldhim that he suggested the use of sulphuric ether.
