    Climate change was officially recognized as a serious problem and continuous rising of carbon dioxide levels were presented. It was realized that an international response was necessitated.
  • First IPCC Report

    Climate change was confirmed as a reality and was supported with scientific data.
  • The Kyoto Protocol

    160 nations signed this protocol that calls for the first ever legally binding commitments to reduce carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2% by 2012. (Signed but not ratified by the US)
  • Fifth IPCC Report

    This was the strongest warning thus far that global warming is happening, and that human activities are most likely causing it through the burning of fossil fuels and increasing CO2 levels in the atmosphere.
  • Second World Climate Conference

    Seeing as most people still continue to refrain from taking necessary actions, further damage is being done to the environment and is intensifying the problem. Leaders have seen that people still aren’t taking the necessary actions that will help our environment. This is still an issue that needs improvement on an international level. People put forth ideas as to how they can reach effective goals in a way that is realistic for most people.
  • The United States Resigns the Paris Climate Agreement

    The US rejoins the Paris Climate Agreement, in an attempt to support then strengthening of the global response to climate change.
  • US Signs The Kyoto Protocol

    The US finally signs the Kyoto Protocol, reducing emissions.
