  • Iron Making Process Improved

    Abraham Darby I came to the conclusion that replacing wood with a new fuel called coke would be more efficient than relying on the growth of trees as fuel.
  • Horse Drawn Seed Drill

    First Seed Drill, made by Jethro Tull was made. Would dig the correct depth with spacing between each seed and would cover the seed after planting.
  • First Steam Engine

    English inventor Thomas Newcomen creates the first practical steam engine. Flooding was common in coal and tin mines at the time, so Newcomen created the pump to remove water.
  • Improvements Made to Mass Weaving

    John Kay created the flying shuttle, a device which allowed the user to weave much wider fabrics, and could be mechanized allowing for a machine to operate it.
  • First Large Scale Production of Sulfuric Acid

    John Roebuck became interested in the mass production of sulfuric acid, going on to make a monopoly off of the production of it.
  • Creation of the Spinning Frame

    Richard Arkwright is credited with creating the spinning frame, an invention which allowed for the mass spinning of thread or yarn from wool or cotton fibers.
  • First Large Upgrade for Steam Engines

    James Watt came to the conclusion that energy was being wasted in the process of a steam engine constantly cooling and reheating the cylinder. Watt then introduced the separate condenser which avoided loss of power.
  • Iron Industry Revolution

    Henry Cort would add grooved rollers to the process of making iron, replacing the task of having to hammer iron at the end of the process.
  • Sodium Carbonate Made from Salt

    Nicolas LeBlanc is credited with finding a way to produce much needed sodium carbonate in a simple two step process. He was awarded a prize from the French Academy of Sciences.
  • First Commercially Available Steamboat

    Robert Fulton is credited with making the world's first commercially successful steamboat named The North River Steamboat of Clermont. It would travel from New York City to Albany, a round trip of 300 miles.
  • First Locomotive to Carry Passengers

    George Stephenson created the world's first steam locomotive to carry passengers, the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Stephenson would become known as the "Father of the Railways" from this.
  • Failed Utopia in America

    Robert Owen buys land in the America's to form a Utopian society. Two years later the project and other ones similar to it would collapse.
