The Salt March
After his release from prison, Gandhi once again promoted Satyagraha that sought to elimate the British heavy tax on salt. This tax, in particular, did great harm to the poverty rate of Indians. This led to the Salt March, an great act of civil disobedience that occured in 1930 as well. Gandhi led his supporters to the sea where he picked up a pinch of salt. During World War II, Gandhi demanded British withdraw from India. The Quit India Movement had begun, and the Indian National Congress refused to support the British in World War II unless they guaranteed complete Indian independence after the war. Later in 1942 Gandhi and the whole INC are arrested. -
