The battle between Great Britain and the british colonies began because britain wanted to tax the colonists. This resulted in the American independence. -
Declaration of Independence
The DOI was signed by 56 delegates.The Declaration of Independence gave independence to the 13 American colonies. For over 200 years we are still celebrating this document. -
War of 1812
Battle between Britian and U.S. The United States were trying to get out from under Briish rule, trade restrictions and having American soldiers taken and put in the Royal Navy. -
Mexican-American War
It was a fight over Texas between Mexico and US. It was important ,had Mexico won, Mexico would have been larger. -
The American Civil War
The fight was between confederate states and slave states (North and South). The war started to abolish slavery. One of the earliest industrial wars. -
US enters World War I
It was mostly called The Great War from it's occurrence until the start of WW II. WW 1 was centered in Europe. Important- It involved all the worlds powers, making it a global war. -
World War II
WW II was the bloodiest conflict in history. The war, fought on land, sea, and air, was the struggle of the twentieth century and was central to the whole century. Important-Americans were stuck in a very deep depression. By the end of the war the economy was successfully and things were looking up. -
The Cold War
The Cold War began soon after World War II. The two countries that were fighting were United States and the Soviet Union. Important- The Cold War was never physicaly violent, they just threatened to use nuclear weapons. -
Vietnam war
The war was fought between North and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was trying to take over South Vietnam's governing ways to change them to a communist culture. The United States supported South Vietnam even though the people of the US did not support the government. When South Vietnam lost, this became and important event showing how NOT to enter into a war. -
9/11 Attacks
On 9/11/2001, there were four planes that were hijacked by terrorists.Why it is such a big deal? It killed more people inside U.S. boundaries than any other one-day event since the Pearl Harbor attack. The attacks unified our country by effecting people all over the US.
