  • Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine was said by President Harry S. Truman. He talked about outlining a policy for providing aid to countries that resisted communist aggression.

    This plan authorized the United States to provide economic aid to western Europe to help rebuild after WWII.

    The Berlin Blockade was where the Soviet Union cut off all land and water entrances to West Berlin. Which then the western allies responded with massive airlift to Berlin's aid.
  • NATO Formation

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created to provide collective support as a team against the Soviet Union. This was the first major organization that the United States joined.
  • Soviet Union Test First Atomic Bomb

    The Soviet Union first tested an atomic bomb called Joe-1 and First Lightning. They were the second country, after the United States to have an atomic bomb.

    This war was fought between North Korea, which was supported by the Soviet Union and China. This war was very difficult to fight and very unpopular in the United States.

    The space race was a competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to see who could reach the moon first.

    The Warsaw pact at the time was called the Treaty of Friendship which was made directly after the accession of West Germany to the Alliance.

    The Vietnam War was a major conflict that lasted for 20 years that was fought by North Vietnam and south Vietnam. The United States and the Allies supported South Vietnam

    Hungarian Revolution

    The Hungarian Revolution was a nation wide uprising which was revolting against the Soviet government over the Hungarian republic. But the Soviets stopped their uprising in less than two weeks so it was very short lived.

    Suez Crisis

    The Suez Crisis was the second Arab-Israeli war. The British and French invaded Egypt which ultimately resulted in the Prime Minister of Egypt resigning.
  • Sputnik Launch

    The Soviet Union launched the worlds first artificial satellite, called Sputnik 1. The success came as a surprise to the United States who were expected to achieve this first.
  • U-2 Incident

    A U-2 spy plane that was launched by the United States was shot down over Soviet Union grounds. Which in turn just raised tensions to even higher extent.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The attack was launched by Guatemala and it all went wong from the very start. They were defeated within two days by the Cuban armed forces under direct control by Castro.
  • Berlin Wall Construction

    East Germany started constructing this wall to stop mass emigration east to west Berlin and Germany. It started out as a barbed wire fence but slowly turned into concrete walls and watchtowers.

    Cuban Missle Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union secretly deployed nuclear missiles to Cuba, which was direct threat to the United States.
  • Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

    This treaty was signed by the United States, Soviet Union, and the United Kingdom. This Treaty banned all tests of nuclear weapons except those that were underground.

    Prague Spring

    When reformist Alexander Dubcek was elected First Secretary of the Communist Party is when it first began. It ended when the Soviet Union and three other warsaw pacts invaded them and suppressed the reforms.
  • Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia

    The Soviets invaded them to crush the Prague spring. Which was a point of political and economic liberation in this area and the Soviets didn't like that.
  • Salt I

    This was a treaty signed by the United States and the Soviet Union. This treaty limited the amount of missiles that each country could deploy and also limited the deployment of anti-ballistic missiles systems.

    Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

    This Invasion took place because the Afghan-mujahideen had been rebelling for multiple years. The Soviets helped the Afghan military in stopping this rebellion.
  • Able Archer 83

    Soviet intelligence tried to detect the early stages of a nuclear war. The simulation they used was called Able Archer 83 and it involved NATO allies and their command.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    The fall of the Berlin wall happened during the Peaceful Revolution. Which marked the beginning of the deconstruction of the Berlin wall and as they call it the "Iron Curtain" was removed.

    Gulf War

    The Gulf War was a conflict between Iraqi forces which invaded Kuwait. The war ended in the United States expelling the Iraqi forces out of Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm.
  • Dissolution of the Soviet Union

    The Soviet Union was disbanded and made 15 countries out of it all. The reason that the Soviet Union disbanded was because the president of the Soviet Union resigned and after that they didn't have a worthy leader.
