The U.S. officially declared war upon the British after they refused to stop seizing American ships.

    Delegates from both sides of the war agreed to meet in the Belgian city of Ghent. These two groups of men were sent with a list of demands, and the intent to find a peaceful resolution to the war, trying to focus on the reasons the war started in order to find solutions to those issues.

    During the war, the New England states were not in support of what was going on. So in 1815, the citizens of the New England states met with the federal government, refusing to send their militias to aid in the war, eventually leading to a declaration offering protection to the New England States, and to support their damaged economic system.

    After several months of negotiation and battle, the original groups that began negotiating in August, found a solid and final solution that could effectively end the war. This treaty managed to return all conquered land, and settle the borders between America and Canada.

    After the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, both sides had to ratify the document. Once this had been accomplished, both sides officially declared that the war had ended, and the conflict had been put to rest, aside from battle that continued for those who had not received the news.
