- did not allow for individuals with disabilities to be excluded from programs just based on the fact that they were disabled

Jan 1, 1975

The Education for All Handicapped Children Act
- provided "free and appropriate" education to all children with disabilites
- protected parents rights
-intiated the Individualized Education Program(IEP)
+ this allowed for more accurate evaluations and more parental involvement

Americans with Disabilities Act
- made to end discrimination in job and public places
- law included:
+ buses and train stations accesible to disabled
+telephones offer accomodations for the deaf
+accesible ways to access public buildings
+Employers accomondate their employees with disabilities

- was an ammendment to The Education for All Handicapped Children Act
- main issues it dealt with
+ Transition plan : helped the journey from student to adult hood
+change terminology of how student is addressed
+individual first and disability second
