    The capital moves from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. Previously it was in New York City. When under Washington.

    Ohio and Erie Canal
    The canal was completed in 1834. A nearly 400 mile path from Ohio to the Hudson River. The path traveled up through New England. Allowed easier trading operations between the two regions.
  • Civil War

    Civil War
    Battle between American citizens the Union and the Confederates for slavery rights. The south wanted to break off and form its own government.
  • Buchtel College

    Buchtel College
    Buchtel college was founded by John R. Buchtel. The college was a precessor to the University of Akron. Important to develop a college in Akron at that time for the city to grow and develop.
  • John D Rockefeller

    John D Rockefeller
    John established the Standard Oil Company in 1870. By the 1880s he controlled about 90% of the U.S. Refineries. Brought a lot of business to northeast Ohio.
  • B.F. Goodrich Company

    B.F. Goodrich Company
    He collected over 10 thousand dollars to move from New York to Akron. By 1911 sales reached 27.4 million dollars. In the early years the company almost went bankrupt twice. Goodrich factory led for many more rubber factories to come.
  • John R Bchtel

    John R Bchtel
    He founded Buchtel college. This college is the precessor to our University of Akron. John believed that establishing a college would allow the area to grow and develop.
  • Wright Brothers

    Wright Brothers
    Wright Brothers make first powered flights to aviation. Born in Ohio. The brothers were very shy their sister spoke for them. Have been experimenting with aviation since 1896.
  • Goodyear

    Goodyear
    Goodyear branched out into the zeppelin industry. A predecessor to modern day blimps. From the creation of Goodyear zeppelins the Germans wanted to enter.
  • The Titanic

    The Titanic
    The Titanic sinks. The so called unsinkable ship sinked when it hit an iceberg. News didn't make land until the morning.
  • Henry Ford

    Henry Ford
    Henry ford develops the modern assembly line. Allowed workers to work more efficiently and made work faster. Cars could be built in 2 hours not 12.

    The U.S. Didn't join until 1917. It was an allied victory with Russia, Ottoman, Austro- Henigan empires. War ends 1918. Results in the fall of Germany.

    Goodyear
    During the 1920s Goodyear decided to branch out into the zeppelin industry. A predecessor to our modern day blimps. Now Germans wanted to enter the zeppelin industry because of the Americans.
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    The 19th Amendment was made to grant women the rights to vote. Was a very important Amendment to women. Woman felt empowered.
  • Great Depression

    Great Depression
    A very important event in American history. Jobs plummeted and stocks crashed. A lot of people went jobless. The government started to make jobs for no reason, to serve no purpose. Lasted 10 years.

    Lasted 6 years. War was fought overseas. Began when Adolf Hitler invaded Poland. American allied with Poland and other countries.
  • Akron during Great Depression

    Akron was plunging downhill fast during the Great Depression. The industrial unemployment rate was about 60%. World War ll got Akron back up and running again. Needing a great demand of rubber. And the women were needed in the workforce during the war.
  • Pro Football Hall of Fame

    Pro Football Hall of Fame
    The Pro Football Hall of Fame was brought to northeast Ohio due to its significance to the sport. Many people come and visit this wonderful place. Many high school football games are played on that field.
  • The attack on 9/11

    The attack on 9/11
    This terroist attack is a major event in U.S. History. The attack was recent a little bit over 15 years ago. 4 plans were hijacked, 2 of them crashed in both the twin towers. One landed in Pennsylvania the people on that flight fought back after hearing about the other planes. The last hit the Pentagon our military defense building. In result of this attack thousands of people died.
