    The Nazi rise to power brought an end to the Weimar Republic and Hitler became Chancellor on January 30, 1933. A few months after Hitler became Chancellor everything was controlled by Nazi rule, such as culture, the economy, education, and law.

    After the death of President Hidenburg, Hitler gained the powers of presidency. The army swore an oath of personal loyalty to him. His dictatorship rested on him being the Reich President or Head of State.

    In September, 1935, Nazi leaders announced new laws that stated what Jews can and can't do. These laws excluded Jews from being able to marry or have sexual relationships with Germans or anyone except their own kind, they can't practice law, own businesses or even be considered German citizens.

    Legislative Persecution
    German authorities stepped up legislative persecution of German Jews. The government set out impoverish Jews and remove them from the German economy by requiring them to register their property. The Nazi government had initiated the practice of aryanizing Jewish businesses. Aryanization meant the dismissal of Jewish workers and managers of a company and the takeover of Jewish owned businesses by non- Jewish Germans.

    Aryanization Continues
    Nazi leaders stepped up "aryanization" efforts and enforced measures that succeeded increasingly in physically isolating and segregating Jews from their fellow Germans. Jews were forbidden to enter designated "aryan" zones. By September 1938, Jewish physicians were effectively banned from treating Aryan patients.

    Kristallnacht
    Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, was caused after a Jewish teenager shot a German official for beating his parents. Angry Germans and Nazis decided to take matters into their own hands and in the span of 2 days over 200 synagogues were burned down, 7,000 Jewish businesses were trashed and looted, dozens of Jews were killed, and more places were looted including Jewish cemeteries.

    Child Euthanasia Program
    The Euthanasia Program was Nazi Germany's first program of mass murder. It predated the genocide of European Jewry (the Holocaust) by approximately two years. The program was one of many radical eugenic measures which aimed to restore the racial "integrity" of the German nation. In the spring and summer months of 1939 a number of planners began to organize a secret killing operation targeting disabled children.
