Hitler: Birth
On April 20, 1889 Adolf Hitler was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria. His parents were Alois and Klara Hitler. Adolf had three sisters and four brothers (Byers 417). -
World: Ford
On June 16, 1903 the Ford Motor Company was formed under Henry Ford. They had 12 stockholders and it took them about a month to produce their first car. Little did Henry Ford know, his company would change American transportation forever (" Ford Motor Company Incorporated"). -
World: First Plane Flies
On December 17, 1903 the Wright Brothers created and flew the first air plane. Orville Wright stayed in the air for 12 seconds and traveled 120 feet. Later that year, the attempted to fly the first powered flight ("First Airplane Flies"). -
World: US Buys Virgin Islands
On March 31, 1917 the United States bought the U.S. Virgin Islands from Denmark. The U.S. paid $25 millions for the collection of islands. This purchase consisted of over 100 islands to the south of America (" U.S. Took Ownership of the Virgin Islands"). -
Hitler: German Workers' Party
On September 16, 1919 Hitler joined the German Workers' Party. This is significant because Hitler will quickly rise to power and soon become their leader. The name was after changed to Nationalist Socialist German Workers' Party, Nazi for short (Stewart 8). -
World: U.S. 19th Amendment
On August 18, 1920 the United States ratified the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This amendment gave women the right to vote. This amendment had been long sought after by the women of the United States of America. -
Hitler: President of Nazi Party
In July of 1921 Hitler became the leader of the Nationalist Socialist German Workers' Party. The previous leader, Anton Drexler, put up a small fight and then gave into Hitler. This shows Hitler's ability to control people and get what he wants (Stewart 8). -
Hitler: Attempt to Overthrow
On November 8, 1923, Hitler and many other Nazis attempted to overthrow the German government in the Munich putsch. Hitler was then arrested for his involvement in the uprising. He was then sentenced to Landsberg Prison for five years (Stewart 8). -
Hitler: Book Publication
In 1925, Hitler had a book publish called "Main Kampf". It talked about what he sees for the future of Germany and his political beliefs. He then had a second volume published in 1926 (Stewart 8) -
World: NY Stock Market
On October 29, 1929 the New York Stock Market crashed. This day is known as Black Tuesday. Unfortunately, billions of dollars were lost and many investors were wiped out ("Stock Market Crash of 1929"). -
World: FDR Becomes US President
On November 8,1932, Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President of the United States of America. He had previously been the Governor of New York. He died in office in April of 1945 (Grun). -
Hitler: Becomes Chancellor
On January 30, 1933 Hitler became the chancellor of Germany. Hitler's goal as Chancellor was to get rid of politics and have Germany be a one-party country. With the new power, Hitler immediately started making changes and no one could stop it from happening ("Adolf is Named Chancellor of Germany"). -
Hitler: The Enabling Act of 1933
In March of 1933 the Enabling Act of Germany was passed. The formal name is "Law of Remedy the distress of People and Reich". The act gave Hitler a huge amount of power in politics which would end up being detrimental to Nazi Germany ("Enabling Act of March 1933"). -
Hitler: Becomes Führer of Germany
On August 2, 1934 President Paul von Hindenburg died from declining health and lung cancer. His death allowed Hitler to become the official Führer of Germany. This gave Hitler more power than he could have wished for and allowed him to be able to do many things he could not do before (Byers 417). -
Hitler: Start of World War II
On September 1, 1939, Hitler started World War II by invading Poland. He quickly calmed the victory due to Germany's advanced military technology. The start of World War II was also sparked by Hitler's attempt to disband the Jewish community and religion (Stewart 8). -
Hitler: Death
On April 30, 1941 Adolf Hitler killed himself. He was in an under ground bunker with his wife Eva Braun Hitler. Hitler has just received news that the Russians were only days away from gaining control of the chancellory ("Adolf Hitler Commits Suicide in his Underground Bunker").
