    William Seward wanted to buy Alaska from Russia when Russia needed the money. Buying Alaska was important because it showed that America was starting to become an imperialistic nation and in years later it was a very resourceful land for the US.

    Promoting moral improvement was a goal of the progressive era by banning alcohol because they thought that morality was the key to improving peoples lives instead of in the workplace. It was important because it kept men from coming home and beating their wives after they had been drinking.

    Alfred T. Mahan
    He urged the government to create a naval power that could rival other nations. He is important to our history because he realized the importance of having a naval base in Hawaii, building a canal in Panama, and creating a strong navy base that would resemble America's power.

    It was the letter sent by the Prime Minister in Spain that called President McKinley weak and enraged the American people. It was important because it made the American people angry and wanting to go into a war with Spain even though it didn't push them over the edge like the esplosion of the U.S.S. Maine.

    1902 (started), Roosevelt wanted to resolve the trusts that hurt the public interest, he became famous for trustbusting after the Northern Securities Company had created a monopoly over the northwestern railroads. I think that it is important that he did this because it showed the people of the country that he cared about them, and that he could handle problems like trusts that hurt American people.

    It was provisions that the U.S added onto the constitution of Cuba that basically allowed them to control their own government but they had to pass it through us first since we said that we would not own Cuba for our own benefit. It's important because it caused Cuba to eventually hate us which resulted in future problems for America.

    Upton Sinclair was a muckraker who exposed the gross conditions of the meatpacking industry. It was important because it exposed the nastiness of the meat, and that corporate America cared about money before welfare.

    The Pure Food and Drug Act was created so that companies would truthfully label their foods foods because people were disgusted with the way their food was being created. I think that it was important because it stopped companies from putting things that were contaminated in the food that we would eat.

    The planes, tanks, and machine guns created a different type of warfare. It's important because it created a different way to fight war and no one had a good strategy of how to fight against it so many people and soldiers died because of these new weapons.

    The convoy system allowed war ships to escort merchant ships across the Atlantic in order to decrease the amount of U-boat attacks. It allowed the merchant ships to get to their destination without being attacked and they were protected.

    When the Russian people took over and killed off the czars of Russia because he didn't really seem to care about the people, and caused the country to become communist later on. It's important because it allowed the US to join the war on the terms that they were fighting on the side of democracy.

    They conserved food, enabling the Allies to have more for themselves so that they weren't hungry by growing victory gardens and having meatless, wheatless, or porkless days. It is very important because it showed how American's were all in it together, and they did all that they could to keep it so that our soldiers would have the advantage.

    It was the peace treaty that ended the war between the Allies and the Central Powers where Germany had to give back land, pay reparations, and also contained a war-guilt clause. Its important because it was the main leading cause of WW2 because of all the things that Germany had to do.
  • Nineteen Amendment

    Nineteen Amendment
    Women's suffrage that started by Susan B. Anthony and finally was ratified by congress in 1920 allowed the women the right to vote, congress basically had to give it to them because they were supporting the war effort tremendously. I think that the nineteenth amendment is important because women then, had the courage to stand up and get what they wanted and to be treated fairly among men.
