The spanish got the cubans to quit fightng when the promised to abolish slavory and make some steps tward democracy. Although they aredly follow through. Though slavery was abolished.

They did this to get more people to buy their paper and to get a some what true/false story out to the public. One of the most recognizable things they have done was post a picture on the paper is a picture of a woman with her son dead in bed and under the picture it says “The Cuban Mother.”

The only way that people thought the Spanish did it was because the Yellow Press blamed it on them. Along with that offering a $ 50,000 reward for anyone who could capture the Spaniards.

    The battle took place in Manila Bay on May 1, 1898 in the Philippines, and was the first major battle of the Spanish American War. Commodore George Dewey engaged and destroyed the Spanish Pacific Squadron under Admiral Patricio Montojo. The philipines were a colony of Spain. We were able to take control of the philippines very quickly and we left early knowing that war would probably be declared so it was a suprise. The U.S. only had one casualty.

T.R and the Rough Riders lead the attack on Kettle Hill and the U.S troops lead the attack on San Juan Hill. After the Rough Riders took Kettle Hill they went and helped out to take San Juan Hill.

Thanks to this we could invade the Philippines with our foot soldiers. We hardly had any casualities. All of our naval battles were one sided victories and proved our navy was strong.

    The Battle of Manila, was a short battle between the U.S. Army and Spanish forces at the end of the Spanish American War. The battle left American forces in control of the center of Manila, surrounded by Philippine revolutionary forces, creating the conditions for the Battle of Manila of 1899 and the start of the Philippine–American War. The U.S. and the Philippines fought together to over come the Spanish but then the Philippines realized they might not be getting the freedom they wanted.

At first it seemed he succeeded but a Cuban rebal had stolen it on its way to Spain, the letter and leaked it to the press giving Mckinley a bad reputation. Although Mckindly was trying to solve the problem with diplomacy. In the letter that was addressed to Mckinley it was talking about how he was “weak”.

    Spain and the U.s met in Paris to talk about a treaty. They ended the six month war. The U.S. deicides with Spain that they will give up Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam and The Philippines to The U.S. The U.S ended up paying Spain 20 million dollars. This increased the U.S empire.
