Missouri Compromise

The Missouri Compromise allowed Missouri to be a slave state and Maine as a free state.

Trial of Tears

1831

Indians were forced to move from their land with little food or supplies to help with the move. The Choctaw were the first to be expelled, and many of them died along the way.

Texas Revolution Begins

Oct 2, 1835

The Texas Revolution begins at the Battle of Gonzales which was won by the Texians because Mexico withdrew at the beginning.

Battle of the Alamo

Feb 23, 1836

The Battle of the Alamo lasted for thirteen days killing over 150 Texans. Mexico won this battle.

Battle of San Jacinto

Apr 21, 1836

During the Battle of San Jacinto, Sam Houston was able to capture Santa Anna, where he signed a peace treaty. This was also the battle that got Texas its independence.

Manifest Destiny

1845

This is the expansion of the United States people thought they should be able to move westward of the nation.

Mexican-American War

Apr 25, 1846

This war was a dispute between Mexico and the United States about where the borders were. Mexico thought it was at the Nueces River, but the United States that it was the Rio Grande River. Mexico also didn't recognize Texas as an independent state.

Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

Feb 2, 1848

The treaty ended the war between the United States and Mexico. The treaty gave more territory to the United States and formally annexed Texas.

Civil War

Apr 12, 1861

The Civil War was between the Union and Confederate states in the United States. The war was about slavery since states were trying to figure out what states were free and slave states.

Juneteenth

Jun 19, 1865

Union troops went to Galveston Bay, Texas to announce that the people who were slaves were free.
