    The Three-Fifths Compromise was an agreement to count three-fifths of a state's slaves towards the state’s population for things like: Representatives, Presidential electors, and direct taxes. This was one of the first things that helped to lead up to the Missouri compromise.

    America would take the 36˚- 30 ˚ latitude line and then make any state above that line a free state with the exception of Missouri and everything below that line would have the choice of popular sovereignty, Popular sovereignty is where the people have the choice to vote to see if the state will become a slave state or a free state.     Compromise of 1850
    The compromise of 1850 was a series of five separate bills. These bills covered things like the Fugitive Slave Act, Slave Trade in Washington D.C was abolished, California entered the union as a free state, a territorial government was created in Utah, and a boundary between Texas and New Mexico was established.     The Kansas-Nebraska Act
    Senator Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois had wrote the Kansas-Nebraska Act. This act was created to get Nebraska into the union and in order to please the southern states, Kansas was going to be put up for popular sovereignty. The problem was that Kansas was above the 36˚- 30 ˚ line. The Kansas-Nebraska Act replaced the Missouri Compromise. Picture from www.pbs.org

    Bleeding Kansas was a dispute between the Southern and Northern States. The people who had moved to Kansas had wanted it to be a free state. However, the South didn’t like this so they sent boarder Ruffians that would ride over and vote and cause trouble in Kansas.
