  • A four-year professional degree program in forestry was announced

  • Junior-year curriculum first offered in 1964-1965 school year

  • Dr. Jack Barrett was appointed Head of the Department of Forestry

  • Four-year curriculum in forest resource management leading to B.S. in Forestry approved in Spring 1965

  • UT Graduate council approved a Master of Science degree with a major in Forestry

  • Department of Forestry moved into the new Buford Ellington Plant Sciences Building

    Society of American Foresters first accredited the Forestry program in 1969 and has been continuously re-approved through 2016 (as of 2014)

  • Curriculum approved leading to a B.S. in Wildlife & Fisheries Science

  • Department of Forestry was re-named the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries

    The department was also given responsibility for all statewide extension activity in forestry, wildlife and fisheries. This name change more accurately reflected the teaching, research and extension activities of the entire department. At this time, fisheries research that had been housed in the Dept. of Ag Biology was transferred to the Dept. of FWF.
  • Dr. Gary Schneider hired as Department Head

  • Doctoral program in Natural Resources (shared with the Department of Ag and Resource Economics) was approved

  • The Center for Wildlife Health established

  • The Center for Native Grasslands Management was created

  • Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies selects UT FWF as headquarters for the National Bobwhite Conservation Initiative
