On 2 March 1874, he became the Marine Corps first general officer when he was promoted to brigadier general. It was Zeilin who approved of the design of the "Eagle, Globe, and Anchor," as the emblem for the Marine Corps. -
First Enlisted Female to the Marines
Opha Mae Johnson was the first female to enlist in the USMC on August 13, 1918. She was not allowed to be on the war zone field, but still did her part with 300 other women behind the scenes to help win the war in France. -
Navajo Code Talkers
During the Battle of IWo Jima Navajo Indians were recruited and trained to send secure voice transmission in there native language. They did this so the language is only know buy there tribe. The Japanesse were unable to decode. -

The USMC invented the 13 man squad which allows them for flexability to make moves. This squadhad squad leader, 3 four man fire teams. Each team was lead by one Coporal, 2 riflefman, and 2 automatic rifleman. -
