Thomas Jefferson and four others were appointed to draft a Declaration of Independence. This document would soon in the future separate the U.S. from Britain. -

Committee of the congress represented the Articles of Confederation to other delegates. This document would be the laying foundation for future documents. -

British lost to the Americans. Turning point for the war as the french signed an alliance with the americans shorty afterward. -

British teamed up with Loyalists and crush the americans in battle. This caused the British troops to go march toward North Carolina. -

Americans trap British troops and claim victory in Yorktown. This caused general Charles Cornwallis to surrender. -
Treaty of Paris
Americans negotiated terms with the British shorty after the surrender. This gave the U.S. Independence and some more land. -
Land Ordinance of 1785
This law marked off land into townships. layed foundation for an upcoming important document. -
Northwest Ordinance
Provided governing for the Northwest territory. Guaranteed basic rights for the Northwest Territory. -
Shay's Rebellion
Shay and other famers tried to revolt the government since the confederation was unable to help farmers, but instead men were killed and the rebellion was crushed. This made people have doubts about the national government's ability to deal with civil unrest. -
Constitutional Convention
A proceeding that congressional leaders gathered to strengthen the government. This led to new ideas been brought forth and made into new laws. -
Draft for the Constitution
After conflicts were resolved, delegates gathered to being drafting the constitution. The constitution would be our government foundation to present day. -
Judiciary Act of 1789
This act was created to achieve a federal court system in the U.S. This system would eventually be known as the president's cabinet. -
Bill of Rights
Ten of the 12 amendments were ratified by the states. These amendments would then be called the Bill of Rights. -
Jay's Treaty
John Jay went over to Great Britain to negotiate a settlement. This made the British abandon their first on U.S. soil. -
Pinckney's Treaty
Spain wanted to settle its disputes with the U.S. This allowed the U.S. territory to expand all the way the to the 31st parallel and guaranteed navigation rights. -
Alien and Sedition Acts
With Federalists and Republicans starting to hate each other even more the federalists decide to pass the Alien and Sedition Acts. This act authorized the president to imprison or expel foreigners from the U.S. and it allowed the president to fine or jail americans he thought had malicious intent. -
Twelfth Amendment
Due to an election crisis the twelfth amendment was ratified. This amendment requires presidents and vice presidents o be voted on separate ballots. -
Declaration of war against Britain
James Madison, after the British continue impressment on the american sailors, sent a letter to congress to declare war on Britain. This war would lead to a making of a treaty and lead to a long friendly relationship. -
Treaty of Ghent
A treaty that consolidated the American control over the Northwest Territory. This will be the start of the U.S.'s and Britain's long partnership. -
Battle of New Orleans
After Ghent was signed, the British attacked New orleans and was easily defeated by the americans. This was the last invasion the British would do.
