Brown v. Board of Education
Supreme Court ruled that students could not be separated in schools because of race. The ruling was very important and highly needed. As a black student myself, if that ruling wasn’t ruled the way that it was, I wouldn’t be able to get the education I want today. Many black students who later became legends depended on this ruling. Civil Rights Act
The Civil Rights act was created and established. In doing so, it made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, and other characteristics illegal. Meaning if an employer discriminates a person who is disabled will automatically face consequences. -
The Elementary and Secondary act
ESEA has not enacted laws to educate students with disabilities, but it does provide funding to public schools’ sand institutions, which implement programs to educate students with disabilities. The bill provides federal funding. The statute not only helped the poor, but the subsequent amendments to the statute helped states develop educational programs to help disabled children. -
The Rehabilitation Act
Unfortunately, there was people that were just trying to take the benefits and money of disabled people. More so where even parents would be doing it without another thought. There were also people who would be quick to judge and turn away people with disabilities. Disabilities should be seen as a superpower not a weakness. A basic funding program was established for local educational institutions. The national funding base has been increased to 150,000 US dollars. . -
All Handicapped Children (IDEA) Act
Since, the law required a free public education, that meant that parents are not going to get charged for anything school related. Even if the school does try to, they have every right to go against it in court. Another thing is that the school must give the child an appropriate public education. Meaning that the school must accommodate to the child, so they are able to learn properly. -
Board of Education of Hendrick Hudson Central School District v Rowley
In the ruling, it stated that students who do get to enroll in the special education programs , are required by federal law that they each get individualized instructions to better meet their specific needs. As humans, it is commonly known that we are all different in our own ways. People with disabilities are the same way, they each require different help. For example, a child with a speech disability might would need a vocational coach. -
Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush. The law promises that people with special needs will enjoy the same rights as others. This includes schools, jobs, transportation, public facilities, communications, and access to state and local government programs and services. FAPE
Amendments were made to better assist IDEA. Which included FAPE to be created to ensure that meaningful and measurable programs for students with special needs was available no matter what. With these amendments, children with special needs can gain the same knowledge as any other kid. Education rights gives children with special needs a voice. In addition, it gives them an opportunity to fully participate and learn to have an independent lifestyle. -
No Child Left Behind Act
President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act. The law states that by 2014, all students must be proficient in math and reading. Some states of the law require you not to participate in it. Some schools were found to have falsified scores, while others took them seriously and reported whether they were proficient. -
IDEA act was revised
The IDEA act was revised in an extremely beneficial way. Congress amended IDEA by calling for early intervention for students, greater accountability, and improved education outcomes. In this revised plan, instructors who teach special education classes, their standards were raised. Special education is very vital for children to being able to get the same education experience as everyone else. In addition, IEP was also created in this revision plan of IDEA.
