  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    This court case was able to ban segregation in schools. "In Brown, school children from four states argued that segregated public schools were inherently unequal and deprived them of equal protection of the laws". Parents of children with special needs argued that this also would apply to their children and should receive the same schooling and education as any other child. This offered inclusion and equal treatment for all to be able to attend school and the opportunity for an education.

This law provided grants to colleges and universities to make sure that courses would be offered to prepare teachers for special education.     The case Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children vs the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was the basis Education for All Handicapped Children Act enacted in 1975.     This law guarantees that people with disabilities have the right to free and appropriate public education. In a appropriate environment.     In 2004 it was reinstated as Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.
