American School for the Deaf (ASD)
The first school that attended special needs students was The Connecticut Asylum for the Education and Instruction of Deaf, later renamed The American School for the Deaf. ASD was the first permanent elementary and secondary school for the deaf in the U. S and the first to receive assistance from the federal government through the provision of comprehensive educational programs and services for deaf and disabled students of hearing. -
Perkins School for the Blind
In 1829, Perkins became the first licensed school for blind students. It helped other schools in the country and created a new system to print and read the raised text, publish and distribute books in this text, which leads to becoming the leader in education for the blind and deafblind. Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
This law represented a historic commitment to equitable access to quality education by placing education at the forefront of the national attack on poverty. ESEA is an extensive statute that funds primary and secondary education, emphasizing high standards and accountability, and gives states more of a say in how schools account for student achievement. This includes the attainment of disadvantaged students. -
Architectural Barriers Act (ABA)
ABA is the first measure of Congress to guarantee access to the built environment for people with disabilities. The law requires that the buildings or facilities that were designed provide ramps, parking, doors, elevators, restrooms, assistive listening systems, fire alarms, signs, and other accessible building elements. Facilities covered by the ABA must meet these standards.

Individualized Educational Program (IEP)
The IEP program, governed by United States law, is developed for each public school child who needs special education. It is created through a team made up of parents and school district staff who know the needs of the child. IEPs must be reviewed each year to track the child's educational progress.

Public Law 94-142
Public Law 94-142 is known as the Education for All Children with Disabilities Act (EAHCA). It is a U.S. federal law responsible for providing early intervention, special education, and other related services to disabled children and adults. Also, it provided them with an education in the "least restrictive environment" to the maximum extent appropriate, allowing children with special needs to be educated with typical children.

IDEA Act
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act is a law that sets requirements for the education of students with disabilities making inclusions to regular classrooms. Educate America Act
The Educate America Act federal law was based on the educational requirements outlined in the 1986 Regular Education Initiative. Congress established, in this law, that educational goals should apply to all students in general, including students with severe disabilities. Also, it is one of the first laws passed that attempts to bring inclusion to the American educational system. -
IDEA Amendment
IDEA is amended as Congress requires early intervention for students, better educational outcomes, and greater accountability, while also raising standards for instructors who teach special education classes. It also called on states to require local school districts to transfer up to 15 percent of their special education funds to general education if a disproportionate number of minority students were found to be placed in special education for reasons other than disability.
