    CEC was first organized in 1922 by Elizabeth Farrell. CEC is a professional organization for special education teachers. CEC assists with advocating laws that will protect individuals with disabilities.

  • PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

    PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania involves the exclusion of Pennsylvania children with mental retardation from public schools. The case mandated special education for children with intellectual disabilities previously called mental retardation. Included in mandate includes the process of parental participation in the educational placement.

    Public Law 94-142
    P.L. 94-142, The Education for All Handicapped Children Act was signed by Pres. Ford in 1975. Schools must provide FAPE to students with disabilities. This law was later reauthorized to IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).

    NCLB was reauthorized in 2015. Many parts of this law on accountability were deleted. The new law became E very Student Succeeds Act and was signed by Pres. Obama on December 10, 2015.
  • Inclusion in MDCPS Strategic Plan

    Inclusion in MDCPS Strategic Plan
    Inclusion goals for Miami-Dade County Public Schools that was taken from the Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services shares a Strategic Plan for 2018-2023. This Plan aims to try and increase regular class placement of students with disabilities to greater than 85%. Also, the goal of this plan is that all students with disabilities increase both math and reading gains in addition to an increase in graduation rates.
