    The American School for the Deaf
    On April 15, 1817, the Connecticut Asylum for the Education and Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Persons. The institution, later renamed The American School for the Deaf, was the first American school dedicated exclusively to the education of the deaf. The American School for the Deaf became the first school of primary and secondary to receive funds from the federal government.When it first opened it had only seven students enrolled.

    It legally ended decades of racial segregation in all Americas public schools. Equal education no matter the race or disabilities. This act was brought after Linda Brown a 3rd graded an African American student in Kansas, was denied access to the white-only schools nearby her house.

    A policy that all children enrolled in public school should are entitled to equal educational opportunity without regard to race, color, sex, or national origin.It required public schools to provide for students who did not speak English.The court mandated that schools offer classes in students first language as children also learn English as a second language.

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    A law that requires public schools whom receive federal funds to provide equal access to education for children with physical and mental disabilities. Amendments were passed to the law changing it to IDEA(1997) and again in 2004. Also the law contains a provision that disabled students should be placed in the least restrictive environment-one that allows the maximum possible opportunity to interact with non-impaired students.

    It help all children with disabilities.It gives rights and protections to kids with disabilities.It covers them from birth through high school graduation or to age 21.it ensures that children receives the appropriate public education to meet their needs and prepare them for education, employment and independent living. Children receive An Individual Education Plan (IEP) to help reach the child's stated goals. Schools support inclusion of children with disabilities.

    The law provides comprehensive civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities in the areas of employment, state and local government services, public accommodations, transportation, and telecommunications. The ADA protects those who qualified individuals with disabilities. Who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits major life activities like taking care of ones self talking, hearing, seeing and working.

    President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act on 2001. This law is to close student achievement gaps by providing all children with a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. Also, the law held accountable schools for how the kids learned and achieved. if schools did not make any progress they will be penalized and they had to progress to keep funding.

    IDEA was amended in 2004 converting it to IDEIA the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act. That mandates equity, accountability, and excellence in education for children with disabilities.It also allows districts to use a response-to-intervention (RTI)to determine if a child has a specific learning disability.
