    American School for the Deaf
    The American School for the Deaf is the first permanent school for deaf children in the United States. It was founded on April 15, 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, Mason Cogswell and Lauret Clerc in Hartford, CT.   • Beattie vs Board of Educatin

    Merritt Beattie was excluded from public school in Wisconsin due to his medical condition that caused him to have difficulty speaking, controlling his facial muscles and excessive drooling. The school claimed that Beattie violated the constitutional rights of other students because his appearance made the other students feel "scared" and "sick to their stomach". The supreme court ruled in favor of the school and placed Beattie in a school with children with disabilities.

It's mission is to help and protect the rights of people with developmental disabilities and see that disabled people are included in their community without being discriminated against. This organization helps disabled people by providing support and services that can help be successful in their community. It also educates others how to interact with disabled people.

    Brown vs Board of Education
    Brown vs Board of Education was a landmark Supreme Court case that ruled that is was unconstitutional to segregate schools based on race/ethnicity/gender/disability. The "separate but equal" doctrine did not have a place in the public school system. Although the court did not rule in favor of the school system, segregation still existed for several years after its ruling.
