    Brown vs. Board of Education
    Racial segregation in public schools are unconstitutional. This was also a beginning for future legislations for students with disabilities. Goal of this event (and other future special education events): students with color ( future students with disabilities) to have the same opportunities in the education system, without having them to feel excluded.   • Vocational Rehabilitation Act

    Vocational Rehabilitation Act
    Prevented any private organizations that used federal fund/local/state organization from discrimination against people with disabilities. These rights are protected by Section 504 and ADA .Students with disabilities recieve accomodations and support as part of their IEP.

  • Individualized Education Program

    Individualized Education Program
    IEP was introduced to the education system, that was legally recognized under the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EHA). This legislation is important because this is the first time that students with any disabilites were granted a legal right for thier education. The purpose of the IEP is to be able to provide a appropriate education that meets the needs for students with disabilites.
  • EAHCA (Public Law 94-142)

    EAHCA (Public Law 94-142)
    Education for All Handicapped Children Act , also known as the Mainstreaming Law , to support and protect the rights of meeting the individual needs and improving results from students with special needs. This also required that all students with disabilities be given a free, appropriate public educatin that they are entitled to recieve (ages 5-18). This was also defined as the first least restrictive environment.
  • Continuum of Educational Services

    Continuum of Educational Services
    A full range of service options for students with disabilites, provided by the school system. In other terms, disabled students have these options avaiable for them in order to meet their educational needs in the classroom. According to the IDEIA , these educational servcies must be available for these students. This was the most appropriate service and least restricitve for the disabled students in the classroom environment.

    Americans with Disabilities Act was established to clear and comprehensive prohibition of discrimination on the basis of disanilty. This includes several areas such as, employment, transportation, schools, etc. This provides equal ccess to all regarding public accomodations. This helps expand protection against discrimination in education.

    IDEA
    Individual with Disabilities Education Act : Legislation that ensures students that have a disability to be provided with education that is fit for their individual educational needs. (was previously known as Education for All Handicapped Children Act and was amended by Individuals With Disabilities Education Improvment Act )
  • No Child Left Behind Act Reauthorized

    No Child Left Behind Act Reauthorized
    Requires states to establish student academic standards as well as an assessment system to ensure that all students are meeting the academic standards.(ESEA) of 1965 was modified by the NCLB of 2002. (ESSA) replaced (NCLB).ESSA gave states the flexibility to develop accountability systems that best measure student success in their respective states.
  • Common Core State Criteria

    Common Core State Criteria
    With this criteria, all students are to be prepared for higher education in the future. This set up a standard on what students should know in the subjects of math and english language arts. This also includes students with disabilites, they will have to handle the challenges from this curriculum. These students will be able to acquire the same information and engage in the same interaction.

    Full Funding Act
    Along with Keep Our Pact Act created a path to fully fund IDEA and other programs for special needs students. They would be able to access any service and supplementary aids that they'll need in a least restrivitve environment. Also provides educators communication with colleagues about the steps needed for students’ academic success. Full Funding Act
