    England - Published book, Hereditary Genius, stating that intelligence is derived from heredity and natural selection. He favored sensory measures in determining giftedness.
  • Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon

    Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon
    France - They created the first true intelligence test. This revolutionized the psychological industry by capturing intelligence in a single numerical result. Their test was modified two times by 1911
  • Lewis M. Terman

    Lewis M. Terman
    USA, Stanford University - Psychologist who revised the French intelligence test, and he improved and adapted the test for both children and adults. He was known as the father of the gifted child movement across the world. He searched for children with IQ's of at least 135, and preferably 140 for his research.
  • Leta Stetter Hollingsworth

    Leta Stetter Hollingsworth
    USA - Columbia University - Professor of Education. She was the pioneer to gifted child education and utilized Terman's test to determine gifted students for the special opportunity class.

    Soviet Union - Sparked the US to re-examine their quality of schooling, and resulted in a surge in the the gifted education movement.
  • National Gifted Education Standards

    National Gifted Education Standards
    NAGC published these standards to provide teacher preparation programs, knowledge, and skill standards for gifted education. These standards were most recently updated in 2013.
